Tea Party, Anyone?
So, what is this “tea party” movement, anyway? Are they a bunch of coiffed, gently-bred, stuck in the 1960′s conservative, southern ladies on an afternoon outing? Or a radical extremist group ready to dump the latest cause into the nearest harbor?
What do they stand for? Leadership, no leadership? Do they wanna be part of the politburo or do their own thing? Because, this weekend’s conference sure seemed like a political gathering, what with the $500 attendance fee, followed by another $300 fee to see the keynote speaker. Who, by the way, was the lady from the tundra (ugh!).
Frankly, I’m confused. Can someone explain it all to me?

I’m not sure the Tea Partiers themselves could explain it all to you, or even some of it. Their message seems to be rage first, figure out why later. Palin’s statement that the GOP should absorb them neatly summarizes her party’s ONLY interest in them: Maybe, the thinking goes, if we embrace them, we won’t look so much like the regional party we’ve already become.
Well, can you really trust someone who, on the one hand, slams the president for using a teleprompter, but on the other hand has written notes?
